Key Responsibilities
Low-field portable MRI has emerged as a safer, cheaper and more convenient alternative to traditional high-field MRI due to reduced magnetic field strengths. However, to fully realize its potential and ensure patient safety, a comprehensive understanding of hardware and physiological responses is crucial. This internship will first focus on coil design through MR simulation, then on characterizing the safety profile of our low-field MRI setups, with a particular emphasis on peripheral nerve stimulation resulting from the magnetic gradients, heat deposition mostly coming from the radiofrequency pulse, and acoustic levels caused by the overall system. A special consideration will be given to the impact of metal implants.
- Contribute with electro-magnetic simulations to the coils designs (gradients and antennas) for our first investigational device.
- Develop mathematical and computational models to control various physiological constraints in our low-field MRI setups (acoustic, heating, stimulation).
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with engineers and physicists to integrate physiological insights into the overall system design.
